Happy Graduation LUCY!!!!!!I know you weren't feeling well these past weeks but you still come to class....You are very smart.I don't say this lightly because how many twelve year olds know as much world trivias as you?Remember Turkey.Vatican and Thailand's uniques histories and geographical realities?And who else WILL feed me with the LATEST in Miley Cyrus' songs?You would put up with my poor voice quality(hahaha) just so I can master it(never mind the tune).You are the best LUCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doraemon turns 31!!!!!!!!!!

I was never interested in films like Saving Private Ryan or Valkyrie but as I hear you raving about it, I got fascinated with the likes of Upham and Tom Cruise's one-eyed character. Normally, you would sit in class binging spicy food and drinking milk. You would challenge me to MSN games which by the way always make me lose. You would teach me Korean phrases, the likes of "babu" and minchin" which had very interesting meanings behind them..hahaha....I can see through you how smart a kid you are.Remember the certificate you showed for your performance in English class?Your computer skits always leave me smiling!On your birthday, I pray that you'll grow up to be an articulate and fun-loving four-star General. I hope you will outgrow your fear in biking and you'll finally play a piano piece in class:-)Have a blast in your birthday!Whatever name you would like to use, be it Paul,Nothing or Doraemon,be sure your celebrating it with a bang!!!!!!!!

love in time of cholera

Blame it on the coming Valentine's Day,but everybody(my sisters,their friends and me) decided to give in to something reportedly "romantic".....I have heard tons of reviews about the novel "Love in Time of Cholera"and when it was a recurring fixture in the movie "Serendipity", I just knew that in this lifetime I should at least do the thumb-twiddling for this book. But then,I never had the rush to buy it!It's just impractical to splurge on a three hundred peso something book especially when the last book you read from the same author was utterly boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So when the movie marathon was scheduled,I had to make time.The setting was 18th Century Colombia and it was a treat to watch the fanfare as ladies walk in their gowns(they look heavy!) with their parasols in tow.Florentino felt madly in love with Fermina.He showed this through his letters and on his persistent,sometimes outrageous efforts just to be close to her. Even after she got married and after his strings of love affairs,he continued to to be devoted to her,sometimes stalking her in a creepy fashion.But first love is stubborn,and after the death of Fermina's husband,he wooed her again and they sailed on (just Fermina,Florentino,the Captain and his lover on board)in the pretense that cholera has struck their ship.

I think what my sisters and their friends can think of the film was about LOVE and tons of bedscenes which they NEVER bothered to be BOTHERED(no yanking their heads in the pillow and no closing their eyes with their hands).They just watched silently,gnashing the snack food between their teeth(thanks Tina for bringing it),subtly taking the shock and satisfying their curiousity.I did found myself laughing in some scenes.Florentino had been a sexually naive alpha male until one whore pulled him inside the cabin and gave him his initiation rites.When the initial ambivalence was taken away,he was filled with the desire,I say an "insatiable" one ,to keep coming back in that cabin and redo their "tryst". It had laugh-worthy moments but it pales with what I have expected.I felt the literary work was so old-school and with all the praises it had for some afficionados, I just can't be on the same page with them:-(

The Prince and the Painter

Once upon a time,in the beautiful kingdom of Korea lived a young prince named Dawon. When he was born, the whole kingdom rejoiced and the king and queen invited everyone to a feast. However, Prince Dawon grew up to be very playful. One day, when he was running around the palace's garden, he stepped into a strange plant. The plant gave off a sob and begged the prince to put water on it's wounded leaf.But Prince Dawon did not listen and went on running.
The goddess Gardenia saw the wilted plant. She was so angry because had Prince Dawon been responsible, her favorite plant could have survived.
Prince Dawon was surprised by a very bright light the next day. The goddess Gardenia appeared and told him "You had a pair of eyes and yet you did not use it to offer help. Now after the plant's death, "I'm taking away your eyesight as punishment. Pray little prince that somebody who sees beauty in little things would care to help you".
When the loud thunder broke, the prince became blind.The king and queen were very sad and they called the peaople in the kingdom for help.They announced that a big reward will be given to person who can bring back his eyesight.
Scholars,magicians and healers across the palace came.They allhad magic potions to offer. The old and experienced men in the long line where shocked when a beautiful kid with a painting came in.

She was bringing her painting,a colorful masterpiece that she had worked for days. Beside her was her supportive Mom and her funny Daddy.
A bearded man asked "What are you here for young kid? Haven't you heard that the prince has gone blind?What good is painting for somebody who can't see?". Everybody laughed.
But Jane is a brave girl and she knows that her gift for art can do a miracle.
